Background

In 1974, after working for several employers over a period of approximately 20 years, Yves Harel, Eng. decided to set up his own company and therefore founded Regulvar. He dedicated considerable energy and many long hours to the Company, with the much-needed support of his wife, Madeleine.

Mr. Harel’s small company had to rise to the challenge of competing with major multinational companies that installed their own products and monopolized the market. To position the Company, Mr. Harel approached many suppliers, some of whom have played a major role in Regulvar’s growth. As a result, Regulvar obtained its first range of pneumatic products from Barber-Colman, entered the electronic control market and discovered digital controls thanks to Staefa, and developed digital technologies with the assistance of Delta Controls.

Regulvar succeeded in entering new markets by evolving in step with technological advances. The Company posted ongoing, gradual growth, but its real expansion occurred in the 1980s when valued contributors joined the Company. At that time, Regulvar left its offices in the family home to set up an office in Ville St-Laurent and eventually open its first branch in Quebec City in 1982—the first of many in Quebec, Ontario and France.

Over time, Mr. Harel and his contributors developed the professionalism and thoroughness that have helped Regulvar perform successfully and develop its reputation. Currently, Regulvar is the largest company in Quebec to operate independently in the field of control systems and it has become a benchmark in building automation.
